Meet the team:
Brian McCann ACA, CF (Partner and Director, MC Vanguard):
After graduating in Economics at Liverpool University, Brian spent 18 years with KPMG working with some of the country’s major businesses as well as with some very dynamic private companies. He left KPMG to open the Liverpool Office of a regional accounting firm in 1998 and then led its growth as it became one of Merseyside’s leading advisory firms.
Brian set up Vanguard Corporate Finance in February 2007 to enable him to concentrate on working directly with clients.
Brian joined Mitchell Charlesworth as Partner in 2011, with the creation of MC Vanguard Corporate Finance, following the merger of Mitchell Charlesworth Corporate Finance and Vanguard Corporate Finance.
He has completed a wide range of transactions over the years with many of his clients retaining him as an adviser, after their initial transaction is completed.
Brian is a board member at Liverpool Chamber of Commerce where he chairs the Finance Committee, is a Director of Merseyside Special Investment Fund and is on the Board of Governors at Liverpool John Moores University.
Away from the office Brian is Chairman of Chester Swimming Association which operate two Victorian swimming pools. Whilst he should know better by now, he still regularly jumps in with one of the swim training groups and pretends to keep up.
Robin Gower (Associate):
After spending several years as a Senior Accountant in practice, Robin made the move into corporate finance in 1999 and has amassed a wealth of experience working with a wide range of owner-managed businesses, both in England and Scotland. He has developed specialisms in acquisitions, disposals, business planning, fundraising, valuations and financial modelling.
Robin joined Vanguard Corporate Finance in 2009.
Outside work Robin is a keen cook and an avid follower of Liverpool Football Club.
Adam McGowan (Manager):
Adam has over 14 years of experience in practice, and has advised a significant number of SME clients and large corporate groups during this time. Adam has extensive tax and accounting knowledge, and is responsibility for a large client portfolio, providing audit, accounting and taxation services.
Adam is also responsible for the delivery of corporate finance services, gaining significant experience in acquisitions, disposals, valuations and fundraising through a large variety of transactions in recent years.
In his spare time, Adam enjoys going to the gym and hacking around his local golf course!
Jean Hughes (Manager):
Jean’s career started in Financial Services and she has worked in accounting and corporate finance since 1997. She was a founder member of Vanguard Corporate Finance in 2007.
Jean’s job is to ensure that our corporate finance projects keep moving forward, in line with the plan agreed with each client.
Jean’s role also includes marketing of our corporate finance services.
Jean is a “plant-a-holic” and her time away from the office is spent in garden centres or her garden (weather permitting) and she is a member of a local cycle group (also weather permitting)!!
Duncan McCann:
Duncan graduated from Liverpool John Moores University with a 2.1 honours degree in Business & Economics in 2011, and joined MC Vanguard Corporate Finance following the merger of Mitchell Charlesworth and Vanguard Corporate Finance.
Duncan has a number of years’ experience within corporate finance and his role at MC Vanguard includes research, financial analysis, marketing and producing business documents.
Outside of work Duncan enjoys playing football, golf and swimming.
